Well, there have been a lot of shows in the past which have worked wonders and have stood the test of time, even with the introduction of newer leads and fresh plots. From the era of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kasautii Zindagii Kay to the ones like Phulwa, Uttaran and many others, Hindi Television has seen the old making way for the new characters resulting in success stories.

Today, we look at such generation leaps wherein the story moves past many years, and focuses on the next generation of the same family tree. IWMBuzz.com talks about the very recent generation leaps that have created wonders.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai:

This extremely popular Star Plus show produced by Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut has been going on for years now. The concept has seen two significant generation leaps, with the third lead pair and story going strong. From Naitik and Akshara (Karan Mehra and Hina Khan) to Kartik and Naira (Mohsin Khan and Shivangi Joshi) and now, Abhimanyu and Akshara (Harshad Chopda and Pranali Rathod), the show has been a prime example of how a show gets blessed to be very successful with the masses. The love story of Abhimanyu and Akshara kickstarted this year and gained immediate acceptance, and this shows that good content can always sell.

Kumkum Bhagya:

This long-running and popular Zee TV show had Shabir Ahluwalia and Sriti Jhan playing the role of Abhi and Pragya. The eternal lovers were destined to unite and separate and faced gruelling challenges in their life spans. Death too could not separate them, and they breathed their last at the same time. The show steadied the future road even when the elderly leads were in the picture. The introduction of characters Prachi, Rhea and Ranbir played by Mugdha Chaphekar, Pooja Banerjee and Krishna Kaul was like the icing on the cake. The new story plot picked up in no time and is ruling the hearts of audiences even now.

Udaariyaan:

The very recent generation leap that took place was in this show. Airing on Colors, Udaariyaan which is produced by Dreamiyata Entertainment got extremely popular with its lead characters of Fateh (Ankit Gupta), Tejo (Priyanka Chaudhary) and Jasmine (Isha Malviya), garnering all the praise and popularity from masses. The complicated love story of Fateh, Tejo and Jasmine was the highlight of the show. Now, history has repeated and we see Ekam (Hitesh Bharadwaj), Nehmat (Twinkle Arora) and Naaz (Sonakshi Batra) carrying the story further. The story post-generation leap has been doing well so far.

Choti Sarrdaarni:

This popular Colors show produced by Cockrow and Shaika Entertainment enthralled fans with its sincere and earnest plot of Sarabjeet Singh Gill (Avinesh Rekhi) and Meher’s (Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia) love story. The love tale was heralded for its simplicity and appeal. Later, with the death of the leads, the new story focussed on Seher and her love tale. In came Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia and Mahir Pandhi as leads. The post-generation leap story impressed viewers and had a good run.

Pandya Store:

This Sphere Origin show, the Hindi remake of a popular Tamil show, kickstarted with the kids and an elder brother. However, with time the story took a leap and entered into the grown-up phases of the brothers. While Kinshuk Mahajan and Shiny Doshi lead the pack even post the generation leap, the new actors who came in – Kanwar Dhillon, Akshay Kharodia, Mohit Parmar, Alice Kaushik, Simran Budharup, did a tremendous job in bringing in a new set of audiences that have given the show good stead so far.
