Kunal Jaisingh, currently seen in Colors show Pavitra Bhagya, had a friendly Twitter debate with his Ishqbaaz co-star Nakuul Mehta who did not seem very impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s massive economic stimulus package speech.
“Later, we chatted, where both of us put forward our respective perspectives in a healthy democratic spirit. I know some people have tried to give it a different spin in the comments below, but this comes with the territory,” says Kunal to IWMBuzz.
When asked about his views on PM’s rescue package, he says “20 lac crores is much more than even what the opposition had demanded. Agreed it is lower than what other developed nations have put on the table, but then our economy is smaller in comparison. We have earmarked about 10% of our GDP to get the businesses out of COVID -19 lockdown mess. It is sad that many people are poking holes in Modiji’s plan before even waiting for the details. I have full faith in his ability to navigate India through these choppy waters. Had somebody else been at the helm of affairs, I would have been worried. It is ironic that while world powers like the US and UK turn to Modi for advice we ridicule him at home,” adds Kunal who has also done Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka.
“Naysayers harp on the absence of migrant labour mess topic in his address to the nation. let’s put things in perspective; workers are going home for they don’t have a job, should factories and firms not introspect why they ignored Modi’s call to refrain from letting staff go in the first place. Also, constitutionally labour is not a central subject. It is the job of state govt’s to ensure their welfare. Why is there is s mass exodus of workers going home to UP only from Maharashtra and not other states? You also need to accept that return is also being credited to the excellent work of UP CM Yogi Adiityanth. Why does Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray not bring in the army to control the epidemic spread in Mumbai, Pune and other hotspots unlike Gujarat which has fewer cases.”? questions he.
“Further Lockdown is again is the remit of the state. Why put more pressure on Modiji who already has too much on his plate with both Pakistan and China trying to intrude into Kashmir. If the states do their bit, Modi is ready to walk the extra mile e.g. he answered a late-night Oddisha SOS for PPE(Personal Protective Equipment) kits to facilitate testing.”
In closing, he requests the critics to be balanced, “Nobody is perfect. I supported the previous Manmohan Singh regime for insulating India from the blushes of 2008 global crises, yet it made other big blunders as well. I too will question Modi if he goes wrong on his new sops, but first, let him do his thing.”
