Talented film and TV actor, Jhumma Mitra, last seen in Sony show, Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, will soon be seen in a Punjabi comedy flick titled, Taara Meera. “I play the role of the mother of the female lead (Sanjay Dutt’s niece, Nazia Hussain). It is a comic/sarcastic take on racism and inter-caste marriages, with a strong message. Well-known Punjabi singer and actor, Ranjit Bawa, is the male lead. Big Punjabi industry names like Yograj Singh, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Shivinder Mahal, Rajiv Thakur and Sudesh Lehri complete the cast.”
“I have finished my main schedule and since have returned back from Amritsar, while the shooting with the rest of the cast continues. We were all there when we heard of the horrific Dussera train accident, and the mood on set became quite sombre.”
“The shoot should wrap up by December and we hope to release the film some time in the middle of next year.”
Asked about the language, and she says, “Luckily, I don’t have many Punjabi dialogues, but my director, Rajeev Dhingra (Firangi maker), the writer and the entire team really helped me to get the hang of things, especially the pronunciations.”
This is Jhumma’s third film. Prior to this, she had done Chingari and Meri Pyaari Bindu. Talking about films vs. TV, which Jhumma will continue to oscillate between, she says, “Both have their pluses. While films have creative satisfaction and clear cut character graphs, TV assures you of much more monetary satisfaction and visibility. Many films come and go and you don’t even get noticed. Something similar happened to Meri Pyaari Bindu as well, where I had a small character, given my Bengali background.”
