Opinion: Leaps And Illogical Buildups

We bring to you a glimpse of a few of the not so appealing leap buildups seen on TV recently.

Television shows on GECs usually follow the thumb rule of going through generation leaps and shorter duration leaps to provide freshness to the storyline. When a show reaches a certain stage where a lot has been tried concerning the twists and turns, the makers usually resort to the idea of going through a jump in time. When there is a generation leap that takes place, it brings in a whole new story, with new characters and freshness.

Yes, there are innumerable occasions of leaps being handled crisply and dramatically. However, there have been occasions wherein leaps have been taken without strong planning, which leaves loopholes or even creates openings for illogical buildups in shows. Many times, the stories are so done and dusted that they sound repetitive to the audience.

We list out a few of the maha illogical buildups to the leaps that we have very recently seen!!

The plot in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, the Star Plus show produced by Balaji Telefilms saw the leadup to a leap giving viewers a terrible twist, that of Anurag (Parth Samthaan) pushing Prerna (Erica Fernandes) down the bridge, right into the water. Well o well, the validation given to this twist was not at all justified. A man like Anurag who was so much in love with Prerna could fall into the trap of Komolika to the extent of killing his own love?? This was one unbelievable buildup which was later followed by the post leap phase wherein Prerna transformed herself into a rich and successful businesswoman all set to seek revenge from Anurag.

It seems like Abhi (Shabir Ahluwalia) and Pragya (Sriti Jha), though are touted as ‘made for each other’ can never get together in Kumkum Bhagya, the Zee TV show produced by Balaji Telefilms. The very recent twist in the show brought about a leap that made Pragya seek revenge. Well, we have earlier mentioned that this particular track was inspired from Kasautii Zindagii Kay, which too had a similar twist (the one mentioned in point one). Abhi and Pragya were about to get married finally, but it did not happen!! While Tanu played spoilsport and got married to Abhi, Pragya was left to die!! We believe that this repetitive storyline could have been better, and the pre-leap phase could have had a different twist to it!!

Choti Sarrdaarni the Colors show produced by Cockrow and Shaika Entertainment has seen many accidents all through the storyline. One such grave accident was that of Sarabjit when Kulwant Kaur rammed into Sarabjit (Avinesh Rekhi) to kill him. However, Sarab survived the gruesome attack. However, when the time for a generation leap came, both Meher (Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia) and Sarabjit breathed their last, in an accident, just to pave way for the newer generation to take over. Considering all the accidents that the show had seen, this twin death and the reason given could not be digested easily!!

Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega the Zee TV show produced by Ved Raj’s Shoonya Square Productions started off well and viewers relished watching the cute love tale of Akshat (Nishant Malkani) and Guddan (Kanika Mann). However, the culmination that their love tale got was shocking to one and all. With a leap about to take place, and with Kanika Mann playing the daughter Choti Guddan, the stage was set for the twin deaths of AJ and Guddan. The dramatic cliffhanger of a sequence where both AJ and Guddan held on to a breaking branch of a tree, hanging in mid-air, saying ‘I love you’ to each other was too much to handle!! Again, could have been a better logical ending to this cute couple.

Well, these are some of the not-so-well-construed leap buildups seen recently. Do you agree with our thought process? Do you have anything else in mind?
