Star Plus has always been the leader in innovation. After bringing in the era of never-ending daily sagas, the channel is now working on limited-episodes series. First off the cuff is the 100-episoder, Gul Khan-produced Yehh Jadu Hai Jinn Ka. Next is the 50-episode Maharaj Ki Jai Ho (Trouble Maker Productions). There is also buzz that the Rajshri show replacing Jinn might also be a finite affair.
According to informed sources, this possible sci-fi show, starring Rajesh Kumar (better known as Rosesh Sarabhai), Abhishek Awasthi (Rakhi Sawant’s ex-boyfriend), Riya Sharma and Satyajit Dubey, might premiere sometime in Dec and Jan.
“We have finally finished shooting (has been in the works for a year) and now are on the edit level, which is again taking time as we want to give a niche product. So far, we have no clue about the time slot and whether it will be a one hour or half hour show,” added the source.
As reported earlier by us, Star is revamping its line-up by ending properties like Sanjivani, Namah and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Divya Drishti is also on its last leg. One more show might exit, but right now we can’t confirm, so we’re not putting out the name yet.
“Limited series are always the best way to go, for writers and makers know exactly what to do and at which pace. Even actors get time to do different characters. And if the show does very well, you can always come back with sequels, like in the west,” ended the source.
We tried to speak to Rajesh Kumar and the producer (David Polycarp), but could not get through to them.
Our attempts to elicit a response from Star head Gaurav Banerjee also came to nought.
