Born in Lucknow and brought up in Mumbai, Casting Director Shadman Khan owns a casting agency named ‘Shadman Khan Casting Agency’. With an experience of good five years and having the most reputed awards like Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Great Young Achievers Award in his kitty, Shadman is known for the casting of television shows, web series, commercial ads and reality shows.
Shadman’s association with the production houses like Balaji Telefilms, Rashmi Sharma, Alchemy Production and to name a few, have made him one of the most successful casting directors in the entertainment world. His projects include Beyhadh 2, Santoshi Maa, Sanjivani 2, Molkki, Poison 2, Kumkum Bhagya and Nail Polish. In conversation with IWMBuzz, Shadman spoke about his journey, challenges and more.
Tell us more about your journey in the industry?
It has been an incredible journey so far. This industry is very precious to me. It’s one of the most wonderful parts of my life. Without this industry, I can’t even imagine anything in my life. But yes I would like to say, if you respect your work then your work will always respect you.
What challenges have you faced in your career span?
Challenges make life interesting. The more challenges you face, the more perfect you became in your work. I faced many challenges or I can say I am still facing but we all need to accept those challenges and deal with them gracefully.
As a casting head, how do you want to benefit in the industry?
As a casting head, I want to create more opportunities for new faces who have real talent. Talent is like a flower and being a casting head, I want to fulfill the role of blooming those flowers.
Who has stood by you in your career? Any names that you can count?
Failure is the only thing I want to mention. I have learnt from my failures, only. Without failure, you don’t value what you get. As they say, without failure there is no achievement. Other than that, my family has always stood by my side. Last but not least, I want to specifically mention about two persons. Producer Tofail Khan and Director Martui Nandan Pachauri for always being so supportive.
Do you believe in launching new faces?
Absolutely, I believe in launching new faces only. I always try to put fresh talents into the projects.
Have you ever faced any kind of starry tantrums?
Many times. I have seen actors throwing tantrums but we need to handle them politely and focus on the result.
Which two shows stand out as your casting work?
Beyhadh 2 and Nail Polish.
So, do you give more weightage to good looks or acting?
Acting, because if you don’t know the skills of acting then your looks won’t work for you.
Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
I am working on few web series as a producer. Hence, I see myself as a producer in the next few years.
