Consumers are the real influencers: Dr Subhash Chandra

Stalwarts of Aonian stature, when jest and merry under one roof, makes for a million dollar picture.

A scene which is recurrent at the haloish Exchange4Media Conclave. It’s an enlightened night attended by dignified dignitaries from the space of media and entertainment, which also salutes and awards the ‘influencer’ personality of the year. 2017 is the year of industry doyen CVL Srinivas, CEO (South Asia) of GroupM, who wore a gratifying smile while receiving the coveted ‘influencer of the year award’.

Congratulations and celebrations.

IndianWikiMedia was present at the event, which also had Dr Subhash Chandra (Member of Parliament and Zee network supremo) as the chief guest.

Talking on the subject of ‘influencing the influencer’, Dr Chandra made an interesting point. In his opinion (which he said he was open to be debated) cutting across all quarters, the buck finally stops with the consumers.

“Consumers are the real influencers. In my case, it’s the viewers. The end consumers influence the influencer into taking decisions,” said the media maestro.

Dr Chandra has built a media empire which touches lives of millions across the globe. For him and his team at Zee, the mantra is to stay focused and ahead of the pack, bringing in innovations and inventions which become industry benchmarks.

“I am glad to announce that soon (by next year) we will launch something inventive under our initiative Zee Labs. It will take the audience into the fascinating world of augmented reality. We are excited about it.”

Well, if it’s Zee, we bet that it will undoubtedly prove to be a game changer in the space.

As entrepreneurs, it’s always aspirational to create an organization, like Dr Chandra’s, which can shape destinies of so many. His ideas and thoughts form conceptual building blocks which later take shape of mammoth successful laudable initiatives.

That he is a pioneer can be gazed from the fact that Raj Nayak, COO, Viacom 18, in his inimitable style admitted of Dr Chandra having an influence in his own career journey. Raj, who was E4M Influencer of the Year 2016, was seen having a gala time conversing with fellow industry acquaintances.

“You need to have a strong value chain in life. We need to have certain principles and guidelines which define our thoughts,” said Dr Chandra, who looked classy and dapper in a suit that suited the ambience of the night.

At Zee, as shared by Dr Chandra, some of the core values entail being frugal, being truthful, hustling, creating new leaders, customer first attitude, being humble & respectful, among others. These are certain values which Dr Chandra believes if followed can help organizations grow and witnessing Zee’s meteoric rise, we are sure very few can challenge or debate on it.

During the interaction session, IndianWikiMedia threw a question at Dr Chandra. We asked on the rising influence of social media wherein recently a show had to be shut down (Pehredaar Piya on Sony) over slacktivism impact. So is social media defining content on Indian television?

After brief contemplation, Dr Chandra averred: “Darr Ke aage jeet hai aur jeet ke aage darr hai. If you are scared then we have to shut it.”

Words of the wise.  In conclusion, we must admit that E4M Conclave 2017 event was a roaring success and we are sure that next year it will be bigger & better. Exchange4Media bosses Anurag Batra and Nawal Ahuja were at their gracious best and popped the bubbly celebrating the success of the event.
