Producer Ved Raj’s banner Story Square Productions is soon coming up with a tale addressing a social issue. Jamuniya which will launch on Shemaroo Umang soon, is the tale of a dark-skinned girl who has been humiliated during her wedding day by her mother-in-law in front of everyone for her appearance. She is a confident and independent girl who is now chained by the prejudices and insults for her skin tone. This is the story of Jamuniya and her rise as a strong woman amidst all the odds in her in-law’s house. The show has Aleya Ghosh and Rajat Verma playing the leads.

Producer Ved Raj talks about addressing this societal issue of the dark-toned skin yet again on television. Says Ved Raj, “This topic of a girl who has a dark-toned skin colour is not new to television. But this topic has been touched upon again and again, as this is still the harsh reality that exists in the society, and refuses to go away. This makes the topic quite relatable to the audience.”

“As far as the story narrative in Jamuniya is concerned, we have created a fresh outlook to it,” he adds.

Talking about how he works on a new concept, the Producer speaks, “When I approach a new concept, I initially think of a new character. If the character excites me, I make a story around that character. I liked Jamuniya as a character and liked it more as it shaped up. She is someone who is not good with household work but can fix a bike. She is a girl who carries her darker tone proudly despite society making life difficult for her. The word Jamuniya means berry jamun, which is dark but has all the goodness and nutrients inside it.”

Talking about his forte as a Writer, he states, “My forte in terms of genre lies in romance and in saying character-driven stories. I wrote Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon years ago and that show is still a benchmark for romance shows on TV. I have created characters like Gopi bahu, Koki, Guddan, Thapki and others which are all etched in everyone’s minds.”

On his immediate goals, Producer Ved Raj states, “I want to continue telling stories. I have never planned my life and career, I have always gone with the flow. So let’s see what plans the future has in store for me.”
