In an exclusive chat with IWMBuzz.com, Shashi Mittal talks about her characters, the amalgamation and much more.
Excerpts:
It has been quite a long wait for Banni Chow Home Delivery to launch. How has the journey till now been for you?
This show demanded this kind of characterization and a long wait is actually acceptable. We needed time to work on all the characters, and what has come out of it is really beautiful.
What according to you is the USP of Banni Chow Home Delivery?
Banni is the biggest USP of the show. Banni is one kind of character who is the Annapurna, and Kali too. She has a combination of being confident and ambitious. She has this conviction that she will make her dreams come true.
How would you describe the sweet association of Yuvan and Banni?
The bond right now, to begin with, is of a mother and son. Yuvan misses his mother and her food. Yuvan’s association starts with Banni on the basis of food. He feels confident in the presence of Banni, and believes that his mother is around. She showers a motherly, pure bond on Yuvan. The aspect of friendship and love will, however, come later in the plot. So presently, it is this cute bond that will catch the attention of the audience.
What do you have to say about the amalgamation of the culinary aspect of the protagonist and the musical attribute in a love story?
You have to watch and tell us whether this amalgamation of food, music and love has been expressed and executed well by us or not!! It is for you all to say. As for the show, the concept demanded this amalgamation. Music, food and friendship are three elements which have been beautifully combined in the show. I would say that the musical ambience in the show will stand out.
What do you have to say about the trend of adapting regional plots in Hindi?
Wherever there is good content, it has to be appreciated and worked upon. Yes, if it is available in the regional market, it is a good trend to show it to the bigger mass in Hindi. However, when we make it in Hindi, we need to convert it and transform it to bring in a universal appeal.
Holding on to the regional plot, have you made major changes to the way the story progresses?
Yes, we have done. We have made additions, and some tweaks to the story to suit the Hindi audience. We have not basically deviated from the broad story though.
Having said this, do you think there is a dearth of original ideas and plots?
No, wherever it is happening, they are original. We should respect all the content that comes into the entertainment business. Eventually, if you look at it, there will be a balance between the original plots and the adapted versions.
Do you as a maker feel that you need to be perturbed with the competition coming from the OTT market?
I don’t think Star Plus needs to worry about such a competition. After all, good content always sells. The competition will be there always, but good content will always stand out.
Tell us about the new Jodi of Pravisht Mishra and Ulka Gupta?
They were my first choice. With Ulka, I was very happy. I knew she was our Banni when we met her for the first time. We have worked earlier with Pravisht, so we knew that he could pull this character of Yuvan well.
What are your personal expectations as a maker from Banni Chow Home Delivery?
I expect that like in our earlier shows, the characterizations that we have made here will appeal to the audience. We want our characters to inspire people.
Best of luck, Team Banni Chow Home Delivery!!
