Well known film anchor Siddharth Kannan who is the face of the ongoing Sony ESPN Super Boxing League (SBL) is happy with the current rating the show is garnering. “We are doing 1.4 which is good enough for a niche sports like boxing. We also have great production values.”
The 8 teams are owned by well -nown film personalities such as Sushant Singh Rajput, Riteish Deshmukh, Sohail Khan and Sunny Leone etc. The format is conceived by Bill Dosanjh, and well known international pugilist Amir Khan.
“Bollywood connect with hard core boxing is helping to push us ahead. You can’t compare it with the huge numbers which IPL throws up. Having said that, you also need to appreciate that a sports only grows when the national squad does well and you have required infrastructural support. We are proud of the Men In Blue because they have brought laurels to the country. Other sports also require the push. Vijendra Singh has made boxing quite popular. Similarly our hockey boys are doing well on the international scene, and this where sporting leagues like SBL, Pro Kabbadi and Indian Soccer League help big time as we discover hidden talent in the far corners of our great land,” Kanan explained.
On a closing note, the anchor said, “The rising success can be seen with packed crowds at various venues. This means we are beginning to elicit interest. Huge TV numbers will come with time.”
All the best, Kannan!!
