Iconic show ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ completes 20 years

If you grew up in the 90’s, there is a sure possibility that you were completely hooked onto to the popular show ‘Hip Hip Hurray’. This iconic show has now completed 20 years since it first aired in the year 1998 on Zee TV.  It showcased a bunch of 12th graders from DeNobili High School dealing with complications ranging from peer pressure, teenage problems, drug abuse, love troubles, academic stress and lots more but with a whole lot of fun, nonetheless.

The show’s concept was fresh and something new that dozens of shows later tried to recreate but could not accomplish the same success and fame. This youth-centric show showed ample amount of comedy, drama & emotions that appealed to the audiences of every age-group.

The cast for this popular show included Purab Kohli, Shveta Salve, Samantha Tremayne, Vishal Merchant, Kishwer Merchant, Mehul Nisar, Rushad Rana, Peeya Rai Chowdhary, Suchitra Pillai, Vinay Pathak, Nauheed Cyrusi, Sharokh Barucha, Zafar Karachiwala & Pamela Mukerjee among others.

As the show clocks 20years, Nupur Asthana, Director of the show, shares a few words on her very first project, Hip Hip Hurray, “I feel blessed and shocked at the same time. That people still remember HHH so fondly and that younger generations also find it relevant. The fact that it resonates with youngsters across generations is overwhelming and extremely heart-warming.”

Reminiscing about the show, Purab Kohli aka Mazhar said, “Hip Hip hurry changed my life. It placed me in a career and made me do things I never imagined I would be doing. To be loved for doing something you really loved doing is a privilege I am grateful to have had.”

Further talking about the show, Shveta Salve said, “Hip Hip Hurray was our second school. Literally! We learned so much being a part of this show and its makers. It gave us the platform explore ourselves and discover the actors within us. It has and will always be something I hold close to my heart.”
