Kasauti Zindagi Kay’s Komolika truly set the benchmark with her iconic character

The most iconic vamp of television “Komolika” From Kasautii Zindagii Kay 6

It’s the early 2000s. You’re on your sofa munching on some kurkure watching Takeshi’s Castle. The clock strikes 8:30  pm and suddenly, the rights to the T.V remote  have been transfered to your mother. The incessant noise of your groaning and moaning are falling on your mother’s deaf ears. She’s entered Ekta kapoor’s fictional world. There’s just no coming back. Oh how we expressed our hate for these tele soaps!

But secretly, deep down we always watched and rooted for Anurag and Prerna to just get married to each other instead of  everyone else and Komolika to mysteriously dissappear. Ah! But we all knew that can’t happen. Believe it or not, Komolika kept the show going.

The iconic female vamp played  by Urvashi Dholakia completely crushed the role. She played the role so savagely that imagining her without her reel life persona was next to impossible. The character was developed so connivingly that people hated her for every breath she took. She was a headstrong woman who knew what she wanted and could go to every lengths to acheive it. Right from her designer sarees and scandalous blouses to her bewitching expressions, every action and dialogues of  Komolika have lead to the title of  ‘Vamp Queen’.  The crowning glory of  Komolika is hands down her twirling that one stray piece of her hair around her finger. We just knew something was cooking in that sinister mind of hers.

The well- executed character played by Urvashi made her the reigning Queen of Evil on Indian television for as long as the show ran.

Now , hitting us with the comeback, the renewed ‘Kasautii Zindagi Kay’ has introduced us with the  revamped version of  Komolika played by the television sweetheart IWMBuzz. It is interesting to see the new Komolika infused with the old character traits. The ideal twirling of a piece of hair and her traditional yet ‘dressed to kill’ style has left the audience reminiscing of the old Komolika. It was interesting to see Hina Khan carrying out this role, complete contrast from her previous goody-two- shoes roles and making it her own but without losing the essence of the iconic vamp character.

Will the audience come to hate her as well? Time will tell!
