Music and musicians evoke a variety of emotions and leave us inspired. One such inspiring story that represents true grit and dedication is that of noted musician Keshav Lal. The 74-year-old musician hit bad times and now plays the harmonium on the footpaths of Pune for the past 30 years. The veteran musician, Keshav Lal was invited on Sony Entertainment Television’s iconic show, Indian Idol 10 and the contestants and judges gave him a memorable tribute.
Inviting a renowned personality like Keshav Lal on Indian Idol 10 reinforces the importance of the role that talented musicians play in our lives. Bringing along his harmonium, Keshav Lal came with his wife Soni Bai on the show. From being at the pinnacle of success to losing all his material possessions, the musician revealed that only music mattered to him and how staying loyal to one’s passion – music is very important. The musician, despite his age, stunned everyone with an amazing performance on ‘Awaara Hoon’ on his harmonium. Keshav Lal, who has worked with the award winning filmmaker like V Shantaram and music composer duo – Kalyanji-Anandji has faced very tough times for last 30 years. So much so, that Keshav and his wife Soni Bai were living on the footpath and looking for a place to stay. Everyone on the sets became emotional as Keshav Lal narrated his life story but the musician’s undying commitment to music had everyone give him a standing ovation with moist eyes.
Keshav Lal came into the news when Mika Singh had tweeted about him and expressed a request if he could come on the reality show. Gurdas Maan, Vishal Dadlani, Neha Kakkar, Anu Malik touched Keshav Lal’s feet which made the humble old man very emotional. Vishal and Neha immediately declared a donation of Rs one lakh each. Vishal expressed that that they will spread awareness about him in the industry so that more can help them. Host Maniesh Paul also did a video call with Mika Singh to share the experience of having Keshav Lal on Indian Idol 10. Mika was overwhelmed and said, “I’m ready to keep them for the rest of their lives!”.
Indian Idol contestant, Salman Ali said, “It was our privilege to witness Keshav Lalji on the show. We got goosebumps and everyone on the sets was emotional and teary eyed. Keshav Lalji’s story is heart wrenching and the way he has struggled in life and still remains faithful to music is incredible. It was very inspiring to know that we should never give up and we, at Indian Idol 10, gave a very beautiful salute to him.”
