The 12th Edition of IPL has got everyone chewing their fingernails and cheering for their beloved teams. Top teams consisting of top players have always been majority favourite. But it’s not easy nor cheap to acquire the top players in the team. Loads of money are cashed in to recruit the best players of the world. One of the player notorius for being the highest bid is none other than Virat Kohli. The star player is one of the few player who has played for the same franchise for the longest time and It’s a no brainer that the team wants him back every season.
He was signed by RCB in 2008, with a strike rate of 105.09 and score of 165 runs , his performance though not very powerful, was promising. He was appointed as the vice-captian of the team in 2011 and finally annouced as the captian in 2013. The highlight of his IPL career was , hands down, in season 12. Virat Kohli scored a total of 5,151 runs in 169 matches with 4 centuries and 35 fifties.
Apparently, this IPL season, RCB is looking no where near to give up on their beloved captain. Among the top five highest paid cricketers, Virat Kohli has managed to the snag the top position making him the highest bid of not only the season, but IPL history! With a staggering amount of 17 crores , RCB retained its captain. Yuvraj Singh coming up shortly behind with 16 crores under his name retained by Delhi Daredevils. Following n the list is Mahendra Singh Dhoni with whopping 15 crores by Chennai Super Kings, Rohit Sharma amassing the same amount by Mumbai Indians and lastly Ben Stokes bagged by RPS.
The star cricketer is unarguebly the most deserving of the title. He is the only player retained by RCB after the first season and what a wise decision that turned out to be! But is this season jinxed for Virat Kohli with the number of defeats piling on under his team’s name? No matter what the verdict of the team is, India will always vouch for its treasured captain.
