Best theatre work of Utpal Dutt

Know some of Utpal Dutt's best theatre works

When it comes to the art form of ‘acting’, we have seen several amazing actors and theatre artistes who have taken the standard of the art to a new high every time they came up with a new play or movie. However, one man who’s often considered to be an inspiration for even the biggest of legends today is the late Utpal Dutt.

He started his career as an actor in the Bengali theatre circuit and soon, he founded his own group in Bengal called ‘The Little Theatre Group’ which went ahead to enact several Shakespearean plays at that time.

His plays were considered to be ideal if one wanted to learn about Marxist ideologies and socio-political plays like Kallol, Manusher Adhikar & Louha Manob validate that fact to a great extent.

In a career spanning more than 40 years, Dutt has acted in more than 100 movies in Bengali & Hindi. He, unfortunately, passed away in the year 1993 but left behind him a legacy that not many can dare to match. Remember Rituparno Ghosh’s The Last Lear movie starring Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Preity Zinta & Shefali Shah? The movie was based on Utpal Dutt’s famous play Aajker Shahjahan.
