According to actor-producer, Boman Irani, theatre is responsible for honing his acting skills. This veteran actor has been associated with theatre for more than a decade.

He has won appreciation for his performances in mega-hit movies like ‘Munnabhai-MBBS’ and its series and 3 idiots. The list of his hit movies is quite long where he has been portraying different characters to the best. The inspiration for the same he credits to his acting skills polished by the theatre where his roots are wide-spread.

‘Munna Bhai-MBBS’ witnessed the debut of Boman Irani into Bollywood which was Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Home Production. Boam’s association with theatre has seen 15 years of lapse and that has been his training ground and educator.

Being a keen observer himself, Boman admits that he learns the craft of acting by watching people and observing their acting skills on the live stage of the theatre. According to him, to learn acting skills one need observation power and theatre is an acting school where you are in front of the live audiences. There is no retakes facility when you are on the cameras in front of audiences and that wins confidence actually.

Boman has struggled very hard working as a waiter to a baker and from a photographer to opting his acting career with theatre.

Alyque Padamsee, a well-known theatre personality was his mentor. It was him who offered the little and a lively role ( cameo) in the play named ‘Roshni’ at the regional theatre in Versova.
Thereafter he got to meet Rahul da Cunha. He offered Boman a role in ‘I am not Bajirao’ play which Boman considers to be one of his best roles in theatre. The play ran for 10 years winning accolades for Boman.

According to Boman doing theatre made him learned stagecraft and a lot of theatre skills from his mentor Alyque.

The cameo in Roshni was followed up by the serials like family ties and Mahatma vs Gandhi in which he played the role of Gandhi.
