Girish Karnad was born on the 19th of May in the year 1938 in Matheran in Maharastra state. He is widely known for his marvelous contributions to the theatre world by being a commendable playwright. Although this is not the only thing he is well renowned for. He is also known as an Indian actor and film director who also worked in Kannada movies as a writer. Unfortunately the legendary artist expired this year on the 10th of June in Bengaluru in the state of Karnataka. He is remembered for his gifts to South Indian cinema along with Bollywood. Just like Vijay Tendulkar being popular is Marathi writing, Girish Karnad was known for his playwriting in Kannada language.

It was his style of writing that made him so iconic, while most writers adapt to fiction, he made fiction adapt to him by using mythology and history to get his point through to people based on contemporary issues. Although, translating his plays to English took him to a whole different level that made great directors like Alyque Padamsee and Vijay Mehta adopt his plays. The legend also won some great achievements like the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan and also 4 Filmfare awards. Some of his great works include Tughlaq, Yayati.
