Shabana Azmi is one of the popular Bollywood veteran. The actress has barely paused since she first burst on the scene in Shyam Benegal’s Ankur in 1974. Shabana has performed in theater shows like “Safed Kundali” and “Tumhari Amrita” along with veteran Farooq Sheikh. She has been acclaimed with several National Awards for her acting skills.

On the occasion of World Theater Day, Shabana had tweeted once and wrote: “I consider myself a film actor but have found working in theater very rewarding. Playing the lead at National Theater London for Tanika Gupta’s ‘The Waiting Room’ was so humbling. Walking to work doing my own laundry. Theater is a great leveller because it eschews hierarchy.”

She has acted on the small and the big screen but she finds acting on stage to be the most rewarding of all arts. At the 30th film festival, she was honoured among the women in cinema and back in 1988, the Government of India awarded her with Padma Shri, which is the fourth highest civilian honour in this country, and Shabana has earned the award and the respect and admiration in our hearts.
